Highlights of the 2008 Show include:
 

NRA Great American Whitetail Collection
The most awesome whitetails from the National Rifle Association’s renowned exhibition of the greatest deer ever taken. Included in the group headed for Syracuse will be the world-record typical whitetail deer — Milo Hanson’s 14-point buck boasting a 29-inch spread! Photographs are allowed and encouraged.

   

Archery Range
Five lanes will help interested shooters — from the novice to the expert — get their chance to have fun and test their skills at what is sure to be one of the most popular “hands on” attractions at the 2008 Northeastern Sport Show! Presented by AJ’s Archery of Cazenovia, New York.

   

Goose Calling Contest
Presented by Jason “Big Jay” Barnes of Frontenac Fowlers, participants will demonstrate their best goose calls in adult and youth divisions at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 27. There is an entry fee and cash prizes will be awarded. First-place winners of the adult and youth divisions will also receive a hunt with “Big Jay” himself. Talons! A Bird of Prey Experience
Master Falconer Lorrie Schumacher will return to the Northeastern Sport Show by popular demand. Her live raptor presentations will feature falcons, hawks, eagles and owls in thrilling flying demonstrations. The program covers various aspects of education, conservation, rehabilitation and propagation of these fascinating birds.

Presentations will take place in conjunction with Bwana Jim's Wildlife Show on Friday at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

   

The Benoit Brothers
Regarded by many as the most successful deer hunting family in North America, well-known trophy deer hunters Lanny, Shane and Lane Benoit of Vermont will once again bring their more than 100 years of combined experience to the Northeastern Sport Show in seminars on taking trophy bucks under all types of conditions. The Benoits will also be available to speak with showgoers at their booth. They have been profiled in countless publications, including Sports Afield, Outdoor Life, Field & Stream, Deer & Deer Hunting, North American Whitetail and Buck Masters. They have authored two books on trophy whitetail hunting and produced two instructional hunting videos which will be available at the show.

   

Bwana Jim's Wildlife Show
He's back! A huge favorite at past Northeastern Sport Shows, "Bwana" Jim Moulton will return to present his exciting, educational and entertaining live wildlife show featuring alligators, crocodiles, North American snakes, a fennec fox, armadillos, turtles and more. With some 20 years of experience as an expert wildlife handler, Jim has traveled throughout the United States exhibiting and speaking about animals and has served as a reptile consultant overseas.

Presentations will take place in conjunction with Talons! A Bird of Prey Experience on Friday at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

   

Northeast Big Buck Club
Back by popular demand, this extraordinary display will feature 30-40 of the biggest and most exceptional Northeast trophy bucks ever taken, including record heads scored at the 2007 show! Background on the Club's conservation, community service, safety and children's programming efforts will also be offered. Showgoers will also have the opportunity to have their own deer scored by an NBBC representative, for a modest fee -- which includes Club membership and a subscription to its quarterly newsletter.

   

Interactive Laser Shot Systems
These patented interactive video target systems allow both bow and gun target shooting within "real-life" outdoor scenarios to test marksmanship and hunting skills while providing instant scoring to gauge success. Hunters can "enter the swamp" to pursue duck and quail, and "walk the woods" to hunt a variety of big game.

   

Trout Pond
This kid-pleaser allows youngsters to take their chances at landing and releasing one of 150 rainbow trout, ranging from 14 to 16 inches. Presented by Friends of Carpenter's Brook Fish Hatchery of Elbridge, New York, proceeds support an improvements program at the hatchery.

   

Seminars by Top Pros
The 2008 Northeastern Sport Show will include 16 seminars to be held throughout the weekend. The schedule includes trophy deer hunting with whitetail experts the Benoit Brothers; canine field training with professional dog training Tom McDonald; tips on landing giant muskies with expert angler Captain Larry Jones; turkey hunting and calling tips with Jim Montanaro of Empire Game Calls; goose calling techniques with Arliss Reed of Buck Gardner Game Calls; walleye fishing with Captain Tony Buffa.

   

NWTF-Sanctioned Turkey Calling Contest
Sanctioned by the National Wild Turkey Federation and hosted by New York State Champion turkey caller Jim Montanaro, callers put their skills to the test on Saturday, January 26 at 2:30 p.m. Sponsored by Empire Game Calls, there is an entry fee and prizes will be awarded.

B.A.S.S. "Casting Kids" Contest
Boys and girls ages 7-14 will test their casting skills — to qualify for the State finals and win cash, scholarships and other prizes — on Sunday, January 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Crown City Bassmasters of Homer, New York, will organize the event. No entry fee.
